JHS Media Center Mission Statement

The Jackson High School Media Program empowers students and staff to effectively access, evaluate, and use information and ideas in pursuit of personal growth and academic excellence. The mission is accomplished by:

• Providing a comprehensive, diverse collection of instructional materials that supports the curriculum and meets the varied learning needs and interests of students.
• Maintaining current print and digital resources that promote the development of knowledge, literary appreciation, aesthetic awareness, and ethical standards.
• Providing balanced materials that represent diverse perspectives and opposing viewpoints on controversial issues.
• Creating a safe, welcoming, and engaging learning environment for students and staff.
• Promoting literacy through events, programs, and activities that encourage a love of reading.
• Collaborating with teachers and staff to support instruction, enhance learning, and integrate information literacy skills across the curriculum.
• Maintaining a collection of sufficient size and quality to meet or exceed applicable SACS accreditation standards.
